Product Description: Join us at Primal Path Academy for a week-long, hands-on workshop on Wild Game Processing and Preservation. Set in the rustic and serene surroundings of Caldwell County, TX, just 45 min South of Austin. This workshop is designed for those who want to learn the essential skills of processing wild game from field to table. Led by experienced hunters and butchers, you will gain in-depth knowledge on field dressing, butchering, and preparing various types of wild game. The workshop will also explore traditional and modern methods of meat preservation, including smoking, drying, and curing. Whether you're a seasoned hunter or a beginner, this workshop provides valuable skills for anyone interested in sustainable living and self-reliance.
Participants will enjoy gourmet farm-to-table meals with organic, gluten-free, and vegetarian options available for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. Accommodation is BYO tent or camper, with RV hookups available for your convenience. Modern indoor bathrooms and A/C ensure a comfortable and restful stay.

Daily Structure:
“Good Morning, Hunters! Breakfast Awaits!” at 6:30 AM. Start your day with a hearty farm-to-table breakfast, fueling up for a full day of hands-on learning and practice.
The day begins at 8:00 AM with guided instruction and practical activities led by our expert instructors.
“Take a Break, Replenish Your Energy – Lunch is Served!” at 11:45 AM. Enjoy a satisfying midday meal, with plenty of organic, gluten-free, and vegetarian options to keep you energized for the afternoon.
Work continues from 12:30 PM until 2:30 PM, when it’s time for our Beat The Heat Break. Relax in the A/C, and discuss the second half of the day’s activities with your fellow participants.
From 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, return to the workshop, applying your skills to new challenges and refining your techniques.
Finally, at 7:30 PM, “Dinner Time! Reflect and Rejuvenate with a Delicious Meal!” Gather around for a gourmet dinner, sharing stories and insights from the day’s activities.
Daily Breakdown:
Day 1: Introduction to Wild Game Processing and Field Dressing
Morning (3-4 hours):
Welcome and Orientation: Meet your instructors and fellow participants. Learn about the importance of ethical hunting, the principles of sustainable game processing, and the goals for the week.
Field Dressing Basics: Begin with an introduction to field dressing, focusing on deer and other large game. Learn the steps to properly and efficiently field dress an animal to prevent spoilage and ensure high-quality meat.

Day 2: Butchering Techniques – Breaking Down Large Game

Introduction to Butchering: Learn the basics of butchering large game, including the tools and equipment needed. Understand the different cuts of meat, how to maximize yield, and the importance of proper handling.
Butchering a Deer: Start the butchering process with a deer, learning how to break it down into primal cuts, such as shoulders, loins, and hams. Practice removing the hide, trimming excess fat, and separating the muscles.
Afternoon (3-4 hours):
Processing the Cuts: Continue processing the deer, focusing on creating smaller, usable cuts like steaks, roasts, and ground meat. Learn how to properly package and label the meat for storage.
Day 3: Small Game Processing – Rabbits, Squirrels, and Birds
Morning (3-4 hours):
Small Game Overview: Shift focus to small game, such as rabbits, squirrels, and birds. Learn the differences in processing techniques for small versus large game, and the specific considerations for each.
Small Game Butchering: Practice butchering small game, starting with rabbits and squirrels. Learn to remove the hide, clean the carcass, and prepare the meat for cooking or preservation.
Afternoon (3-4 hours):
Bird Processing: Move on to processing birds, such as quail and pheasant. Practice plucking feathers, cleaning the bird, and breaking it down into usable parts like breasts, thighs, and wings.
Day 4: Introduction to Meat Preservation – Smoking and Curing
Morning (3-4 hours):
Smoking Techniques: Learn the basics of smoking meat, including hot and cold smoking methods. Understand how smoking preserves meat, enhances flavor, and creates a safe, long-lasting product.
Building a Smokehouse: Discuss the different types of smokehouses and smokers, from traditional wood-fired smokehouses to modern electric smokers. Learn how to set up and maintain a smoking environment.
